Prosthodontic Rehabilitation of An Acquired Maxillary Defect In Post Covid Mucormycosis Patient

AIMS: Rehabilitation of a maxillary defect post mucormycosis with obturator
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Phycomycetes is the causative agent leading to the deadly fungal infection calle Mucormycosis. Predisposing factors involve patients with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, immunosuppressive therapy. The survival rate of the patients depends upon how quickly the disease is diagnosed and treated. A patient with surgical removal of partial maxilla due to covid associated mucormycosis reported with a chief complain of regurgitation of fluids and resonance of sound. On examination partial maxillectomy with oro-antral fistula was diagnosed. The patient was rehabilitated with an iterim obturator after 20 days of surgery followed by a definitive obturator after 4 months.
CONCLUSIONS: Post-insertion of prosthesis, there was a significant change in clarity of speech and resonance in voice. Improvement in masticatory function and overall well-being was achieved.
